When an emergency happens, there is no time for assumptions or hesitation. Care comes first.
That is the spirit behind EMS Week 2025, observed from May 18 to May 24, and celebrated under the theme “We Care. For Everyone.” It is a simple statement that reflects the daily reality of emergency medical services professionals everywhere.
From busy city roads to quiet neighborhoods, from homes and schools to workplaces and highways, EMS professionals respond wherever they are needed. They are the first line of defense, providing lifesaving care and serving as the critical link between the scene of an emergency and the hospital.
Why EMS Week Matters
EMS professionals care for everyone, regardless of age, background, or circumstance. Whether it is a child injured in a crash, an elderly patient in distress, a worker experiencing chest pain, or a person facing an overdose, EMS teams are trained, prepared, and ready to respond. Their dedication, skill, and sacrifice are the reasons communities feel safer.
EMS Week was first authorized in 1974 by President Gerald Ford and is led today by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) in partnership with the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT). Together, they ensure the vital contributions of EMS professionals are recognized and celebrated.
